Colleges, School and Institutes
Research interests
Developing smart materials to tackle unmet healthcare needs. Creating antibacterial surfaces to prevent the spread of infection on frequent touch surfaces and mapping the transmission of bacteria on surfaces. Designing novel materials for implantable devices to promote patient health outcomes and reduce infection. Also developing a novel platform technology for ocular drug delivery to both the front and the back of the eye, particularly looking at delivery of age-related macular degeneration drugs via topical administration.

PhD projects
Dr Cogan’s current research projects include:
Creating novel antimicrobial materials to prevent the spread of infection.
Mapping the spread of infection on surfaces in complex environments.
Developing a platform technology for ocular drug delivery to both the front and the back of the eye, particularly looking at delivery of age-related macular degeneration drugs via topical administration.
Designing osseoinductive coatings for implant materials which rely on low energy, low cost manufacturing to reduce the high cost of implants for the NHS.
Developing smart coatings for implant materials which can prevent infection, modulate scaring and be tailored to specific patients and or diseases
