Personal profile

Biography

I am an experienced teacher and lecturer with 27 years teaching experience in Early Years, Primary, SEND and Higher Education. A wide variety of teaching experiences in Birmingham, Essex and Scottish schools and universities has provided a broad foundation of different practices that positively influence my role as a lecturer.

I have previously been a visiting/ fixed term lecturer at the University of Birmingham. I combined lecturing with my role as an Assistant Head teacher at an Independent SEND therapeutic school with particular focus on attachment and trauma. I was instrumental in taking the setting from an alternative provision unit to a DfE registered school. I was responsible for all aspects of education and have written, delivered and assessed all curriculum areas, for pupils aged 3-16 years, who previously had been unable to succeed in education.

Research interests

My research interests include the role of executive function in children who have experienced attachment and/or trauma issues. I have previously researched the impact of early years teachers' perceptions of summer born children in PSED and baseline assessments in the EYFS.
