Abstract

The chapter discusses Martin Crimp's seminal play Fewer Emergencies (2002; 2005) in the context of formal experimentation in contemporary British theatre. The piece critically analyses and rigorously theorizes the text, arguing for its social resonance and political efficacy despite the playwright's resistance to putting across a 'message' in the sense that some more traditionally political types of theatrical representation do.
