Abstract

In this paper, a new technique which enables communication data to be embedded into MIMO radar waveform is presented. A linear frequency modulated (LFM) signal is used for radar sensing, and multiple phase shift keying (PSK) symbols, for communications, are embedded into the LFM signal. In this way, multiple communication symbols per radar pulse are generated. Such waveforms are subsequently combined within a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration. Orthogonality between transmitters is ensured using time-division multiplexing (TDM). The performance of this novel PSK-LFM technique is demonstrated through both simulation and experimentation.
