Abstract
The feasibility of surface modification of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) using the novel plasma immersion ion implantation (PI3) was studied. The PI3 treatment shows much greater potential in enhancing the surface hardness, elastic modulus and sliding wear resistance of UHMWPE as compared to conventional plasma treatment.
