Abstract
The reaction S-32 (165.4 MeV) + Mg-24 is studied using the binary reaction spectrometer (BRS) coupled to the EUROBALL Ge-detector array. Particle-particle-gamma and particle-gamma-gamma coincidences have been examined together with gamma-gamma-only coincidences for the fusion-evaporation residues. Recent reports of evidence for hyper-deformation from angular correlations in similar data are investigated. Analogous out-of-plane angular correlations are observed but attributed to reactions with the target contaminants O-16 and C-12. This is consistent with the contamination observed in the gamma-gamma-only data. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
