Abstract

Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, decision-makers in all areas, be it political, industrial, or academic, have endeavored to tackle the risks of terrorism and advance security policies to defeat these risks. The threat of terrorism in railway stations and any attack could lead to the disruption of critical infrastructure operations, people, and the economy. In this chapter, we provide an understanding of terrorism risk management in relation to the essential infrastructure of railway stations. Given the interconnectedness of the railway station and the system and economy of cities, a sufficiently high level of security must be put in place. Understanding the key issues is crucial for evaluating the various methods of regulating and providing railway station safety and security. The purpose of this chapter is to review, explore and analyze the features of potential risks and impacts on the security of the stations.
