Isolated subgroups in finite groups

Abstract

For G a finite group, we introduce the notion of an isolated subgroup of G. These subgroups arise naturally in the project to understand the groups of local characteristic p, p a prime. We investigate how the presence of an isolated subgroup in G influences the structure of G.
