Abstract

This chapter sets out the concept of in/security in greater detail. Drawing on her research on in/security, rather than as a dancehall practitioner or researcher, Patricia Noxolo offers a critical review of the work of some of the key theorists of dancehall – Sonjah N. Stanley Niaah, Carolyn Cooper, Donna Hope and Julian Henriques. Her chapter theorises corporeal negotiation of in/security and then applies this theorisation to dancehall spaces. She delineates the negotiative agency of dancehall bodies, in terms of their sonic, affective and visual meanings, with a view to mapping out a field of enquiry around embodied in/security in the dancehall space.
