Abstract

A method of large volume Super Gaussian beam generation (SGBG) by use of saturable absorbers in unstable resonators is discussed. The advantages of the obtained beams are improved and practical aspects of the generation are studied for use in high energy Q-switched lasers. Results show that single mode giant pulses with rapidly decreasing wings in the near field are possible with the method.
