Abstract

This chapter reflects on the socio-ethical implications of AI technology adoption. Focusing on the UK experience, it illustrates how the UK government’s ‘regulator focussed’ approach has failed to capture the nuances in technological developments due to the lack of a comprehensive statutory framework. A re-conceptualisation of AI adoption is called for to ensure that the balance between regulation and risk is proportionate within the context of patient care. The chapter goes on to provide a framework to highlight the impact of innovative integration within the context of AI adoption.
