Abstract
Conflict is prevalent in many environmental policy settings. Contest models offer an intuitive and tractable set of tools for the formal analysis of this conflict. This article identifies the basic features of a contest model, the ways in which the basic version can be extended, and its application in a wide set of contexts of interest to environmental and resource economists.
