Cloud based services, digital platforms, and internationalization

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingEntry for encyclopedia/dictionary

Service innovation has played an important role in the internationalization of all types of activities. Initially, it was assumed that most service firms were local rather than international businesses. Service internationalization includes exports, foreign direct investment, but also the temporary relocation of producers and consumers. Innovation related to digitalization continues to transform service internationalization. This includes developments in cloud based services and the role played by platforms and their networking effect that is reconfiguring capitalism. The Internet combined with globalization has also led to the growth in born-global service businesses.
