Research interests

I am interested in the welfare systems and social policies of the Middle East and North Africa region, with particular focus on the Arab countries. My reserach primarily explores institutional and political configurations and changes by drawing upon theoretical perspectives in global social policy, welfare theory, social welfare regimes, historical insititutonalism, political philosophy and the sociology of religion.  Policy areas I work on are social care, social assistance (including cash trasnfer programmes) and the role of civil society organisations.
