Marvyn is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Birmingham, Dubai. He joined Birmingham in February 2024 from Kingston University London, where he served as an Associate Professor of Marketing and in several leadership capacities, including Head of Department and Programme Director of UG Marketing Courses.
Marvyn is a Senior Teaching Fellow with UK Advance HE (SFHEA) and has won several awards for his inclusive and innovative approach to teaching, pedagogy and student support. He is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) accredited by the International Coaching Federation.
Marvyn's research focuses on brand positioning in B2C and B2B marketing, Regulatory focus and mode, place branding, and context and decoy effects on consumer perceptions and behaviour. He is actively involved in the Scholarship of teaching, learning and student support.
Marvyn studied in the Caribbean, the US and UK, where he worked in the private sector and completed his doctoral studies through an award from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Prior to joining academia, Marvyn held sales and marketing executive positions at IBM Caribbean and Ford and Mitsubishi Automotive in the US. He is currently involved in consultancy projects working with companies in a variety of sectors, including retail and FMCG.
