PhD projects

I invite expressions of interest from doctoral students interested in receiving co-supervision on projects engaging any of the following topics:

animation, production studies, new media, cinematic materiality, video games, film history, feminist theory, labour, art history, digital culture, visual effects, expanded cinemas, and philosophies of film and media.

Previous supervisions
I have supervised students completing dissertations at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level; subject matter ranged from an undergraduate dissertation investigating the legal framework of censorship and the configuration of ‘obscene’ media in the context of erotic and pornographic films, to a master’s level project exploring transformations from post-war to present day Japan through a consideration of the ‘magical girl’ and her evolution onscreen as a constantly evoked and endlessly recalibrated expression of wider social issues.
