Abstract
It is shown that the modest pressures used in hot isostatic pressing alter the equilibrium proportions and thus the properties of phases in Ti-46Al-8Nb. These results are interpreted in terms of the atomic volumes of the phases and of the potential of pressure to modify the properties of alloys. (c) 2006 Acta Materialia Inc.
