Abstract

Fatigue growth of naturally-nucleated surface cracks was investigated in air under four-point bending for the PM Ni-base superalloy Udimet 720. Cracks were found to nucleate from surface defects. Statistical aspects of the fatigue crack nucleation and fatigue crack growth resistance were investigated in terms of probabilistic modelling. (C) 2003 Acta Materialia Inc.
