Abstract

There is no standard industrial start-up control scheme for an offshore wind farm with MTDC available. This paper proposes a generalised sequential start-up control scheme to de-risk the failure of MTDC. This work was on a strategic UK-China collaborative project sponsored by EPSRC under Grant EP/K006312/1, UK National Gridhttps://www.smarternetworks.org/project/nia_nget0003, leading to a savings of >£100m http://documents.dps.ny.gov/public/Common/ViewDoc.aspx?DocRefId=%7B40934289-D716-41A3-9505-5DC7964EF29E%7D (see page 298 “Expected benefits of project”). The work led to (1) De-risking of MTDC failure solution and specifications to National Grid’s future projects; (2) 2 research projects with State Grid Corporation of China; (3) the award of the prestigious IEEE Fellowship.
