Religion and Ethical Consumption: Supramorality and Space

This chapter considers the relationship between religion and ethical consumption. It draws on the work of Bruno Latour in order to critically evaluate the contribution of religion to discussions of the ethics and morality of consumption, suggesting that religion makes a distinctive, if not a distinct (as in separable), contribution to the debates. The two areas of supramorality and spatiality are considered as important resources available to religion which may help to better understand and trace its contribution to discussions of ethical consumption.
