Abstract

This paper seeks to analyze some common aspects and convergent paths between History and Anthropology. Specifically, it examines how anthropological theories and methodscan contribute to historians’ understanding of religion, belief and society in the Middle Ages. The intention is to demonstrate that anthropological influences in researches onmedieval Christianity can help historians in their commitment to interpret the language of their sources. This paper aims to explore certain comparisons between and changes withindisciplines, which have occurred in recent decades, in their efforts to explain and represent the “other”.
