Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the reader to qualitative research. The first section highlights the basic aims of qualitative research and the epistemological and ontological assumptions that guide it. The second section highlights various qualitative approaches. Section three and four focuses on methods of data collection and analysis. The final section attends to how we might judge the quality of qualitative research. Throughout illustrative examples of qualitative research from the field of physical activity and health are offered.
