Psychopathology at school: Theorizing mental disorders in education

Julie Allan, Valerie Harwood

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

Psychopathology at school is a response to concerns about the rising numbers of children whose behaviour is recognised and understood as a mental disorder. The book charts the ways in which such disorders have become more common from birth through early childhood and across all stages of schooling to college and university. The consequences of the increasing pathologisation of children's behaviour are considered and possibilities for alternative educational responses that negate the diagnosis of mental disorder are explored.
