Abstract
Rapid and far-reaching rural policies have been introduced into Eastern Germany since reunification based upon experience in Western Germany. An examination of an agri-environmental scheme in one Western Land (Baden Wurttemberg) exposes limitatations which are of concern if it is to be the model for wider application in the new Germany.
