Abstract
Wound healing and tissue repair represent some of the most complex biological processes that take place within the body. Once the skin or other tissues are compromised or injured, numerous parallel biological pathways become activated. There has been an increasing drive to develop novel therapeutic agents to promote wound repair and to reduce scarring. As a consequence of this there have been a number of nonclinical and clinical in vitro and in vivo approaches that have been developed and refined in an attempt to model the wound healing process. Potential therapeutic agents for wound repair and scar reduction can then be tested in such models to assess their efficacy.
