Abstract
A hypothesis about the dependency of morpheme frequency on morpheme polysemy will be discussed and tested on a German sample. It will be shown that the hypothesis seems to be correct for derivational affixes and morphemes which are used as verbs, nouns, or adjectives. In the case of morphemes which are used as function words the hypothesis cannot be confirmed.
