Abstract

In this paper, the effect of the shape of the element of an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) on parameters such as bandwidth, resonance frequency, second order mode frequency and resonance frequency stability with angle of incident are analysed by an equivalent circuit model and HFSS simulations. In particular, the effect of element shape on bandwidth is studied and it is shown that increasing surface inductance, as opposed to total inductance, by changing the shape of elements, cannot widen the bandwidth significantly and in some cases even narrower bandwidth is obtained.
