Abstract

This paper describes the use of random (fractional Brownian motion) and deterministic (Weierstrass function) fractal time series as transform functions for digital pseudocolour processing of grayscale images. These fractal look up tables can be used as a fast method to 'texturize' images non-destructively, with controlled levels of 'persistency' or 'antipersistency' using the Hurst exponent of the fractional Brownian motion or Weierstrass function models. Pseudo-greyscale look up tables created with these methods can also be used to add non-destructive artistic 'pencil' or 'charcoal' touches to digital images.
