Abstract

Artificial dielectric structures have a long history starting from the 40s of the last century [1]. On the contrary, artificial magnetic structures have not taken off until the end of the 20th century when subwavelength resonant particles were employed to achieve negative values of the effective magnetic permeability [2]. The combination of both disciplines under the term metamaterials has forced scientists to revisit many theories and design procedures [3].
