N2 - This paper presents the development and initial user trial of a system of interconnected units, used to collect data and position from the field and relay these data back to a command post where is it visualised. The command centre can then make decisions based on the data collected and relay basic instructions back to the field units. The underlying goal of this research is to investigate the human factors involve when managing multiple field units from a hierarchical command structure with real-time two-way information flow capabilities. In this paper, a study shows that using datalink does not impede performance and significantly reduces non-task communications.
