Abstract

Ionic liquids (ILs) are exciting new media for crystallisation. Composed entirely of ions the large number of possible combinations of anion and cation present a huge potential for altering functionality. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the largely unexplored application of using ionic liquids to influence crystallisation habits of organic materials. Work to date has focussed on developing methods required to understand the crystallisation mechanisms. Preliminary crystallisation work has shown that the use of ILs to carry out controlled recrystallisations looks promising.
