N2 - NdFeB magnets are well known for their favourable magnetic properties but find limited applications under harsh environmental conditions due to poor corrosion resistance. The work presented here forms part of a broader project to, (1) develop anisotropic polymer bonded NdFeB magnets with improved corrosion resistance, and (2) design a water pump for use in automotive applications. Prior to pressing and curing to form the magnets, the anisotropic powder is coated with a layer of zinc by the Low Pressure Pack Sublimation (LPPS) process. This paper reports on a preliminary investigation into the corrosion resistance properties of the unbonded powder, as it is expected that the properties of the powder will be, to a large extent, indicative of the corrosion resistance properties of the pressed magnet.
