Abstract

In this paper, the meandered dipole, essentially a symmetrical and electrically small antenna, is demonstrated using a novel differential feeding technique in the work of Bhatti et al. (2005), removing the need for a balun between differential signalling from a MMIC to a single-ended antenna, thereby bringing about enhanced integration on the front-end. Two prototype dipoles, conventional microstrip dipole and meandered dipole antennas are presented and their performances are evaluated with simulated and measured results to showcase the feasibility to achieve an integrated and electrically small front-end antenna.
