Abstract

This paper describes the ongoing project "The measurement of train aerodynamic phenomena in operational conditions", which aims to compare experimental and numerical measurements of train aerodynamic phenomena with full scale on-train and trackside measurements. This paper sets out the various experimental measurements and numerical calculations that are being carried out. Two sets of results are presented - a comparison between full scale trackside pressure and slipstream measurements with model measurements and CFD calculations; and full scale measurements made of the pressures caused by trains passing or running through tunnels. Further work on the project is outlined.
