PhD projects

Stephen M Jones is working on the following projects:

Relationships between the Paleocene/Eocene Thermal Maximum global climate change event, the North Atlantic Large Igneous Province and underlying Icelandic mantle convection system (C-FORCE project).

Temporal variability in Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, and links with global climate change (DenGate project).

Understanding Greenland Ice Sheet vulnerability, especially by understanding how the Greenlandic and Icelandic ice sheets grew during intensification of the Northern Hemisphere Glaciation (Tjörnes project).

Developing continuous marine air quality monitoring capability using national research vessel fleets (AirShip project).

Measuring time-dependence in mantle convection, in particular the evolution of the Icelandic convective system and the effect of background convection on sedimentation patterns at passive continental margins (IMPULSE project).

Development of techniques to estimate oceanic variability and mixing from multichannel seismic data.

Thermal and chemical modelling of proto-planetary bodies during the first few millions years of solar system evolution.

Dr Jones supervises doctoral research in all these areas.
