Biography
Dr Sharin McDowall-Emefiele is from the beautiful Caribbean Island of St Vincent and the Grenadines. She received her undergraduate degree in Economics (with First Class honours) from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. She then travelled to the United Kingdom where she went on to earn an MSc in Economic (with Merit) and later a PhD in Economics from Aston University.
She has worked at several higher education institutions in the United Kingdom, and is now a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Birmingham.
Sharin is an applied economist. Her main research interest is in understanding the determinants and obstacles of economic growth and development. Her research covers multi-level dimensions of individuals, firms, industries, regions, governments and their interplay, based on the observations drawn from different frameworks of both developed and developing economies. Specifically her interest can be grouped as Applied Development Economics and Finance; and Application of Institutional Theory in both Entrepreneurship and International Business.
