Robert Elliott’s work is in the area of globalisation and international business, including empirical international trade, firm heterogeneity, environment, development and labour economics. Specific topics include: economics of China and East Asia; the environment; pollution; regulations and industrial restructuring; geographical specialisation and spatial economics; conceptual, methodological and empirical analysis of intra-industry trade; the relationship between trade structure and labour market adjustment; multinationals and foreign direct investment; international business and economics of immigration.

Research interests

Rob Elliott is a Professor of economics in the department at the University of Birmingham. After finishing his PhD at the University of Nottingham he worked in Manchester before coming to Birmingham in 2003. His primary interest is the economics of globalisation with a special interest in international trade, environmental economics and labour economics.
