PhD projects

Paulus Kirchhof works on the understanding of novel molecular mechanisms of heart disease and their translation from bench to bedside. He has led many controlled, investigator-initiated clinical trials and contributed to the development of clinical guidelines, for example the 2010 guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology on the management of atrial fibrillation.

As a Consultant Cardiologist at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, he has an active involvement in the evaluation and improvement of the clinical management of patients with heart disease, especially cardiomyopathies, heart failure and arrhythmias. In parallel, he continues to apply transgenic technology to characterise novel mechanisms of myocardial dysfunction and probe new translational therapies for heart disease.
