Clinical translation of novel stem cell-based therapies has the potential to radically improve prognosis and treatment outcomes across a range of medical specialties. Success, however, is dependent upon having a robust biological knowledge basis which integrates the many facets of tissue regeneration. Paul Cooper and his team carry out research and doctoral supervision that focuses on both the development of new approaches in stem cell research and their translational capacity. Team members have training and expertise in both biological and physical sciences areas. These include: stem cell selection/expansion (including induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology); scaffold design for cell delivery; angiogenesis; interaction with biomaterials; ultrasound and quantitative imaging technology. Areas for translational targeting include mineralised tissue, neuronal and ocular repair.
