Martin Powell specialises in health policy, especially New Labour; choice and consumerism; decentralisation; partnerships; history of health care before the NHS; social policy, especially historical and geographical dimensions; citizenship; equity; and theories of welfare state development. He is currently leading a DH-funded project on the impact of the health reforms in England.
