Khamis Essa
Colleges, School and Institutes
Biography
Dr Khamis Essa is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of the Manufacturing Research Group (MRG) at the University of Birmingham. His research in the field of advanced manufacturing and process modelling has focused on additive manufacturing, net-shape hot isostatic pressing and incremental forming. The scientific emphasis is on the process-material interaction, which is studied using experimental and modelling approaches, to assess the impact of the advanced processing techniques on the microstructure-property development in advanced materials. He is PI/Co-I on three projects funded by EPSRC (EP/M507672/1, EP/P03117X/1, EP/N018524/1). Dr Essa is also PI on a number of projects funded by DSTL, European Space Agency and BAE Systems. He has active collaboration with China and he is PI on three projects funded by the Guangdong Municipal Government. He is also Co-Investigator on 3 Horizon 2020, 1 Clean Sky, 2 ERDF and 5 industrial projects. He has a portfolio of projects with a total budget in excess of £6M. He published 34 journal papers and 21 conference papers. He has given a number of keynotes and invited talks in KSA, Mexico, Egypt and Malaysia.
