Julian Bion specialises in the treatment and management of sepsis. He is involved in a range of clinical projects focused on improving the management of patients with sepsis, and acutely ill patients in general, to enhance reliable delivery of best practice care. He is one of the lead investigators in a collaborative group studying the genetics of sepsis, with funding from the European Commission, and is the senior clinical lead for the Department of Health-funded ‘Matching Michigan' project to minimise bloodstream infections linked to the use of central venous catheters. Professor Bion is also a member of the World Health Organization's sepsis group developing best practice guidance for resource-limited environments.
