Jonathan Grix

Willingness to take PhD students

PhD projects

Jonathan is interested in questions around the growing political salience of sport for states and in the manner in which states use sport for non-sporting aims. Themes include the bidding for and hosting of sports mega-events and the legacies that arise from them; the convergence of elite sport systems around a sports system not too dissimilar to that of former East European states (in particular, East Germany) and the governance of sport - that is, the implementation of sport policy by government. He has recently undertaken specific research projects for UK Sport and Triathlon England.

Dr Grix has published widely on sport politics and research methodology and has successfully supervised eight doctoral researchers as a primary or secondary supervisor, and welcomes applications from potential students in his areas of interest.
