Research interests

My team uses a range of methods of both molecular and cellular immunology to explore the roles of immune cell populations in samples taken directly from sites of inflammation.

The overarching aim of our work is to identify novel clinical targets for the improved therapy of chronic inflammatory disease.

We recently identified a novel FcRL4+ B cell population in the rheumatoid joint and in other inflammatory diseases. Our findings suggest a pro-inflammatory and destructive role for this cell type, it is  specifically involved in the local autoimmune response. Investigation of their origin, differentiation, role in inflammatory diseases and potential as a clinical target is now an important focus of our work.
