PhD projects

Andrew Chan’s research projects include: numerical modelling of multiphase pollutant transportation in partially saturated porous media, and cracking created by steel corrosion products in reinforced concrete; IT in the civil engineering industry; a new plane strain constitutive model for sands under non-monotonic loading; the use of virtual reality in structural design (VISABO); a prototype expert system for effective track maintenance and renewal; ISERT - improving the stiffness of railway foundations in situ; wave-induced liquefaction; the seismic response of reinforced concrete structures; iterative techniques for finite element application; numerical analysis of bamboo and laminated bamboo strip lumber; a decision support system for railway maintenance; acceleration of computation processes by using field-programmable gate arrays; modelling the regionalisation of rainfall runoff; and multi-disciplinary optimisation and data mining.
