Abstract
Vortices in atom trap condensates are expected to be quantum objects in the limit of large coherence length. By exactly solving small systems we demonstrate that there is a quantum vortex liquid. The states have an alternative interpretation in terms of fractional vortices and collective excitations. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
