The book is fundamentally concerned with interrelations of theory and practice and focuses on the development of theory and on effective interventions and professional practices, particularly in the fields of social work, social policy, and social welfare. While a gendered approach to violence is the central theme of the book, other social divisions such as class, age, and race, are analyzed and their implications for interventions are considered. The book also explores distinctions and connections between institutional and interpersonal violence, with special attention paid to current issues and debates, the organization of violence, gender and power in organizations, and male violence toward females.
