Abstract

An ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with well controlled omnidirectional patterns and a band notch is presented. The antenna consists of a pyramidal monopole with slots in each face, the resonant frequency of which can be controlled using a variable capacitor. Performance is demonstrated with fixed capacitors, showing tuning over a very wide frequency range of 4.8 to 7.472 GHz and low pattern ripple in the azimuth plane even at the high end of the band.
