Universities' strategies in place building: Co-evolving logics and identities in a cross-border city region

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Universities have recently been portrayed as institutional actors in the context of ‘cross-border regions’ across different parts of the world. This study opens an agenda to better understand the interplay between multiple universities’ strategies, institutional logics and identities in relation to the place-making processes. An illustrative case study including four universities in a cross-border city region between Hong Kong and Shenzhen points to the importance of understanding the diversity of individual universities’ strategies as narrative and dynamics of capability building in a cross-border region across the past, present and future.
