Abstract

Tensile deformation of two cast Al-7wt.%Si-0.6wt.%Mg alloys with different qualities was investigated by analyzing true stress-strain curves and SEM fractography. Work hardening rate versus true stress plots showed distinct differences between the two alloys. The effect of structural discontinuities observed in SEM fractography on tensile deformation characteristics are discussed in the paper. (C) 2003 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
